Thank you for your interest in the First Inaugural Lavardo Fisher 5K.
The goal of this memorial race is to encourage responsible and safe gun ownership. Prevention through education of sound gun safety practices.
5K entry fees are $30 until midnight Sunday Oct 11, 2026, and includes a custom shirt. The late entry is $35 until Friday Oct 23, 2026, at 6pm and $40 on race day. Late and race day entries are not guaranteed a shirt, but we will strive to accommodate everyone.
Awards will be presented to the First Place Overall Male and Female finisher and to first place in age groups. The age groups are 9 and under, 10 -19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49,50-59,60-69 and 70 and over. Awards will be presented at approximately 9am on race day.
We will announce pre-race packet pick up closer to the event if a location is found.
Lavardo Denashe "Eljay" Fisher II, a 13-year-old student in Ocoee, Florida, tragically died on February 8, 2016, after being accidentally shot in the back of the head. The fatal shooting occurred on Sunday, February 7, while he was playing Xbox at a relative's house on Spottswood Drive in Orlando.
- The Accident: Fisher's 18-year-old cousin found an unsecured gun in a bedroom and was playing with it while riding a hoverboard. The cousin lost his balance and accidentally discharged the weapon.
- Aftermath: Fisher was transported to the hospital in critical condition and passed away the following Monday.
- Charges: No criminal charges were filed against the cousin, as investigators determined the shooting was a tragic accident.
Community Response: The tragic loss deeply impacted the local community. Fisher's teammates and coaches at Ocoee Middle School remembered him for his humor and bright smile, and they dedicated their upcoming track season to his memory.
